Wrigglers by Jamie Straw

 Wrigglers is a single page comic and animated GIF consisting of four square panels rendered in oil paint. The comic depicts opening a spaghetti squash to find a wriggling grub inside. 

Panel 1: A finger pokes at a squishy, orange substance protruding from a spaghetti squash lying on a cutting board. The words, “What’s this ooze?” are etched into the cutting board.

Panel 2: The words, “It’s a grub” are now etched into the cutting board, and there is a wriggling grub in a cavity bored into a cross section of the spaghetti squash.

Panel 3: The cutting board now reads, “I cut that part off.” The grub continues wriggling even as someone cuts that section off of the spaghetti squash.

Panel 4: There is a plate of cooked spaghetti squash with tomato sauce garnished with basil on a light blue table cloth with a beetle pattern on it. A few strands of the squash spell out, “We ate it anyway,” and atop the basil garnish, the grub continues wriggling.
